Helping frontline health professionals become COVID-19 ready

BACKGROUND

Background

The University of Melbourne is a public research university and Australia’s 2nd oldest university.

 

The Mobile Learning Unit (MLU) was established by the University of Melbourne to connect Academics and Researchers with Healthcare Professionals through the delivery of Online Medical Courses.

The Challenge

Based on the core objectives of the MLU, there was a need to develop an online learning platform that provided healthcare professionals ongoing enablement through access to the latest research discoveries, innovative treatments, and updated learnings from academics.

With the outbreak of COVID-19, they were also mandated by DHHS (Department of Health and Human Services) and the medical faculty to deliver pre-approved COVID-19 training courses to critical frontline health professionals via online learning to aid in our country’s response to the pandemic.

The Mav3rik Mark

In close collaboration with the MLU team, Mav3rik built an end-to-end online learning platform consisting of two independent Heroku-hosted applications – a Learning and Assessment Portal for students and healthcare professionals and a Content Builder for educators – and integrated these with the current Student Management System (Salesforce) to facilitate Case Management and other backend processes.

Mav3rik developed an easy-to-use online learning platform that:

  • Delivers critical COVID-19 training courses for front-line health professionals such as: “Lung and Cardiac Ultrasound”, “Critical Care Essentials for Nurses”, “Communicating COVID-19”, “Resilience Tools for Clinicians During COVID-19”,“Compassion Fatigue: The Cost of Caring" and “Clinical Ethics and COVID-19”

  • Provides a rich and efficient experience for content authors to author, review and publish online course content

  • Supports a variety of content types including HTML, images, videos, interactive JavaScript content and assessable questions

  • Offers a desktop and mobile-ready learning experience for students built on React JS, Node JS, GraphQL

  • Integrates seamlessly with Salesforce via Heroku Connect

  • Automatically scales on demand using Heroku’s autoscaling features

  • Utilises Heroku Private Space to ensure low latency, high performance and security
